The International Seabed Authority is calling for proposals for the evaluation of geothermal energy potential in seabed hydrothermal systems.

The Secretariat of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) has announced a call for proposals for consultancy services for the evaluation of the geothermal energy potential from seabed hydrothermal systems. Applications must be submitted to rfp@isa.org.jm no later than 31 October 2022.

The ISA is an autonomous international organization through which States Parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) organize and control all mineral resources related activities in the Area for the benefit of humankind as a whole. The consultancy will support the ISA Secretariat in the assessment of the energy generation potential of hydrothermal vent sites in mid-ocean ridges.

The ISA is seeking a consultant with requisite experience in: (i) the assessment of geothermal energy; (ii) the geological modelling of geo- and hydrothermal systems; (iii) familiarity with geothermal fluid flow, heat flux estimations, capacity calculations, assessments of energy production; and (iv) familiarity with engineering solutions, technical installations, monitoring systems, energy transportation systems.

More details on the RFP are available in the official Terms of Reference.
