State power company ENDE is seeking consultancy services for a study on the market feasibility and business alternatives of the Laguna Colorada geothermal project in Bolivia

Bolivia’s state power company La Empresa Nacional de Electricidad (ENDE) has launched a tender for the Market Feasibility Study, Evaluation of Conceptual Engineering, and Analysis of Business Alternatives for the 100-MW Laguna Colorada Geothermal Plant Project. The deadline for submission of proposals will be on 7 June, 2022. The terms of the proposed consultancy can be viewed in the official Expression of Interest document.

ENDE had also previously issued a call for local or international consultancy players to evaluate the economic viability of the Laguna Colorada project in the context of the national and international energy market. Despite the seeming lack of certainty in the market, the final phases of the construction of a 5-MW geothermal pilot plant were reported earlier this year.

The Laguna Colorado project site is located at around 4700 meters above sea level. Development of a 50-MW power plant was planned following the success of a pilot plant project, with the opportunity to scale up to 100 MW. The pilot plant is being built by a joint venture of Sacyr and Ormat Technologies.
