TGDC has launched a tender for consultancy services for pre-feasibility studies, planning, and supervision for geothermal drilling at Kiejo-Mbaka, Tanzania.

The Tanzania Geothermal Development Company (TGDC) has published a tender for consultancy services to provide planning and supervision of a drilling programme and the conduct of a pre-feasibility study for the Kiejo-Mbaka geothermal project in Mbeya Region in Tanzania.

Further details on the tender and the associated tender documents are available via the National e-Procurement System of Tanzania (NEsT) website (requires registration). The tender is open only until 5 June 2026.

The scope of work under this tender covers:

  • Planning and design of drilling programme
  • Supervision and management of drilling programme of three slim wells and one full-size well
  • Pre-feasibility study for geothermal reservoir assessment

TGDC had also just recently announced a tender for drilling services for the Ngozi geothermal project.

In 2021, TGDC announced the start of drilling of three shallow wells in the Kiejo-Mbaka geothermal site. The results from this drilling campaign have not been extensively documented, but a 2021 publication (2021, Kajugus, S.) indicates that the wells were drilled to a maximum depth of 300 meters and that two out of the three wells discharged hot water (75 ºC) at 100 L/s.
