Tender – Slim hole drilling for Ngozi geothermal project, Tanzania
TGDC has announced an upcoming tender for drilling, cementing, and mud engineering services for the Ngozi geothermal project in Tanzania.
The Tanzania Geothermal Development Company (TGDC) has published a tender for drilling rig and auxiliary services for the drilling of three slim hole wells for the Ngozi geothermal project in the Mbeya region in Tanzania.
Further details on the tender and the associated tender documents are available via the National e-Procurement System of Tanzania (NEsT) website (requires registration). The tender will officially open on 26 May 2026.
Three lots are being offered under this tender:
- Lot 1: Drilling rig and accessories
- Lot 2: Cementing unit and accessories
- Lot 3: Mud engineering services
Bidders may tender for a single lot, or all of the lots. The tender will be open to international participants, and joint ventures will be allowed.
This will be the third time that a similar tender will be opened for the Ngozi site, with previous ones announced in 2023 and 2022. There is no indication that any wells were drilled following the previous tenders. There is also no information about the results of the last tender rounds. TGDC had previously received criticism from the Ministry of Energy regarding the lack of progress in the Ngozi project despite a commitment that drilling work will start by 2024.
Ngozi is one of the five strategic projects being advanced by TGDC as it aims to develop more than 200 MW of geothermal power generation capacity in Tanzania.
