The Heat Beneath Our Feet Initiative of the Western Governors' Association will be starting a webinar series featuring the geothermal facilities in Western U.S.

As part of the Heat Beneath Our Feet initiative, the Western Governors’ Association (WGA) will be holding tours to several geothermal facilities in the Western U.S. Each tour will be followed with a webinar featuring local experts to discuss the opportunities and challenges presented by the various forms of geothermal use.

The series will kick off with a tour to the geothermal heat exchange system at Colorado Mesa University (CMU). This will be followed with a webinar on October 6, 2022 at 2PM MST. For those who want to join the conversation, you may register to the webinar via this link.

Heat Beneath Our Feet (HBOF) is a bipartisan initiative that will examine opportunities for and barriers to the increased development and deployment of geothermal technologies and evaluate strategies to scale geothermal technologies in the Western states of the U.S. Through the HBOF initiative, WGA will evaluate geothermal energy technology development in the Western States and assess the potential benefits it would offer.

We had recently reported on a survey that will help design the HBOF initiative. Inputs for this survey are still being accepted.

The Heat Beneath Our Feet Initiative will also include tours of, and webinars regarding:

  • The Puna Geothermal Venture in Hilo Hawaii
  • The Boise Warm Spring Geothermal Water District in Idaho
  • The Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy in Utah (Utah FORGE)
  • The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Colorado
