The DSG 2026 – Developments in Geothermal International Workshop, which will address current research, technological developments, and field applications in the field of geothermal energy, will be held in Trabzon, Türkiye from September 14-16, 2026.
The workshop, to be held at the Zorlu Grand Hotel, will bring together academics, researchers, engineers, geologists, representatives from public institutions, and industry professionals. The event will discuss the technological and economic future of geothermal energy, as well as electricity and heat production, advanced geothermal systems, well technologies, and new application areas.
The workshop aims to create a knowledge and experience-sharing environment, particularly for companies considering investing in geothermal heat and energy projects, as well as for engineers, geologists, and financial consultants. Participants can follow the event or share their work through 20-30 minute oral presentations or posters.
A comprehensive program covers EGS and lithium
The published program indicates that the workshop will feature not only traditional geothermal applications but also significant new technology areas within the sector. Topics covered include Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS), closed-loop advanced geothermal systems (AGS), hot dry rock, supercritical geothermal well engineering, AI-based geothermal reservoir temperature prediction, well integrity, and digital twin applications .
Lithium production from geothermal fluids is also among the program’s highlights. Irem Eren from Zorlu Energy will discuss the potential of extracting lithium from geothermal fluids with low lithium concentrations. The program will also feature a presentation on the use of hot dry rock geothermal energy in data centers.
Keynote speakers at the workshop include Prof. Dr. Erdin Bozkurt from Middle East Technical University, Dr. Norbert Klitzsch from RWTH Aachen University, and Dr. Ken Seymour from Eco-Therm Co. Bozkurt will discuss subsidence, seismicity, and environmental risks in geothermal fields; Klitzsch will address advanced petrophysical characterization of rock cores; and Seymour will discuss integrity data and the digital twin approach in geothermal wells.
Public institutions will also participate in the workshop
The program will also include a Public Sector Panel that will address Türkiye’s geothermal energy potential, electricity generation practices, and policies.
The panel will be moderated by Nazli Can Pedük from the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. Panelists will include Mustafa Çaliskan from the Ministry’s General Directorate of Energy Affairs, Ejder Yapici from MTA (Mineral Research and Exploration Institute), and Dr. Ümit Çalikoglu from TENMAK (Turkish Mineral Research and Exploration Institute).
The event will also include presentations on the Manisa Acidere AGS Project, the classification of geothermal systems in Turkey and their hot dry rock potential, geothermal production licenses, and thermodynamic and economic evaluations of geothermal systems. The program also includes B2B meetings, a software demonstration, and a closed project meeting for the Manisa AGS Project.
International academic and industry participation
The DSG 2026 Workshop Committee is co-chaired by Prof. Tassos Karayiannis from Brunel University London Centre for Energy Efficient and Sustainable Technologies, Dr. Zeynel Öztürk, Founder and CTO of Anadolu Innovation R&D Inc., and Prof. Norbert Klitzsch from CG³ – Computational Geology at RWTH Aachen University. The workshop secretariat is being handled by Dr. Ahmet Tahir Kalkism from Brunel University London Centre for Energy Efficient and Sustainable Technologies.
The final part of the three-day program will include a social event and a technical tour sponsored by Anadolu Innovation Inc.
DSG 2026 aims to contribute to technology, investment, and policy discussions regarding the future of geothermal energy by bringing together academic research, public policies, and real-world field applications from the sector on a single platform.
