TSKB has signed a green-themed loan agreement with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) totaling $220 million.

With this loan, TSKB will finance renewable energy and energy efficiency investments aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Turkey. According to the statement, the loan is the continuation of the 150 million dollar loan TSKB obtained from JBIC in March 2015.

Making an assessment on the subject, TSKB General Manager Ece Börü said, “In line with our sustainable development-oriented banking approach, we have been contributing to investments in the transition to a low-carbon economy with our financing and consultancy opportunities since the early 2000s. 387 renewable energy projects that we support until the end of 2021 correspond to 15% of our country’s installed power in this field. Together with 149 efficiency investments in which we take a role in energy and resource-intensive sectors, we contribute 15.8 million tons to the reduction of our country’s annual carbon emissions.

As a bank whose loan portfolio consists of investments related to UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we are very happy to create additional resources for our country’s investors with the second phase of the green-themed loan agreement we signed with JBIC. We believe that this important agreement within the scope of our cooperation with JBIC, which has been going on for years, is an indicator of the trust placed in our bank and in our country.”

Ryuta Suzuki, JBIC Istanbul Representative, said, “In parallel with the global decarbonization trend, energy efficiency investments are becoming more important than ever in Turkey. In Turkey, which is a production and export center especially for Europe, we consider supporting energy efficiency in the industrial sector as a priority issue. We believe that, within the scope of this cooperation with TSKB, which works closely with the industrial sector, we will contribute to Turkey’s sustainable growth by increasing the competitiveness of companies in exports.”
