Emil Martini has worked in several EU-funded projects – mostly under the Horizon 2020 and LIFE programmes – dealing with energy transition, decarbonisation policies and buildings renovation. In 2022 he joined EGEC and, among others, he is now in charge of the monitoring and promotion to EGEC members of the EU funding opportunities on renewable energies.
The geothermal sector is diverse, and so are EU financing support schemes. In theory there is a form of EU level support for every type of geothermal project out there, from fundamental research into new technologies or processes, to scaling up a geothermal heat pump SME internationally, including financing a demonstration project for a new type of geothermal power plant. In practice, it is not always easy for geothermal project developers to be able to find the right scheme at the right moment and to apply in a successful way. Far from providing ready-to-use solutions, the presentation on Friday, February 24, 2023 can nevertheless be a first step towards accessing the right information with the aim of giving at least a first overview of the diverse financing facilities at EU level with a focus on the geothermal sector.
