Learn more on a report released in the Netherlands on HSE risks of ultra deep geothermal energy and EGS in the Netherlands in this webinar on Feb. 26, 2021.

Late last year, Netherlands’ State Supervision of Mines (SSM) released a report on study assessing the risk for ultra-deep geothermal and engineered geothermal systems (EGS) in the Netherlands, which we reported on.

Witteveen + Bos (Netherlands) carried out the research in collaboration with subcontractors VITO (Belgium), Q-Con (Germany), Newell (Netherlands) and TU Delft (Netherlands).

Learn more about the research and the report from Yvonne A’Campo (Witteveen+Bos) from the report on “Risk Assessment of HSE Risks of Ultra Deep Geothermal Energy and Enhanced Geothermal Systems in the Netherlands“, in this IGC Events Webinar on Feb. 26, 2021, 14:00 CET.

The researchers identified 11 important risks. Three of these are seismicity; the remaining 8 are related to drilling, testing and boosting the reservoir and producing the hot water. Using a so-called ‘bow-tie analysis’ (a method for identifying risks and formulating appropriate measures), a classification scheme was then drawn up so that risk analyzes can be carried out for concrete projects.
