Malaysia is well positioned to exploit geothermal energy with abundant and robust geothermal systems, documented by numerous hot springs, close to industrial and population centers on the West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The East Coast is also prospective for geothermal development to serve the energy needs of less numerous, but still significant, population and industrial centers.
This talk will illustrate how gravity and magnetic data inform physics-based modelling to reveal the geothermal potential of Eastern Malaysia even when hot springs are not abundant.
About the speaker:
Bill Heins is Chief Geoscientist at Getech Group, plc. Getech applies world-leading geoscience data and unique geospatial software products to locate the subsurface resources that are vital for energy security and a sustainable transition.
Over the last 40 years Bill has consulted on strategy for Fortune 500 technology companies with the Strategic Management Group; taught geology at Vassar College and Lewis-Clark State College; advised geology graduate students in North America, Europe, and Australia; explored for oil and gas on six continents with ExxonMobil; and written the evening English newscast for China Central Television in Beijing.
Bill has a degree in Management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a PhD in Geology from UCLA. He is the author of over 100 scholarly contributions in geology, environmental science, and management.
