Zorlu Energy has commissioned the converted Alasehir Geothermal Power Plant in Manisa, Türkiye as a hybrid power plant utilizing both geothermal and solar.

Zorlu Energy has completed the conversion of the Alasehir Geothermal Power Plant in the Manisa Province, Türkiye into a hybrid power plant. The geothermal power plant has been supplemented with a solar power plant with a peak power of 3.75 MWp.

The company aims to use renewable energy resources more efficiently with its Combined Renewable Electricity Production Facility, where it combines geothermal as the main source and solar as an auxiliary source. Solar power is generated using a total of 31,200 thin-film solar panels each with 115 Wp power built in 6.2 hectares of land.

The Combined Renewable Electricity Generation Facility is expected to contribute 4.5 million liras (approx. USD 233,00) to the national economy.

“We completed the land installation of our Combined Renewable Electricity Generation Facility, which will lead the combined power plants in Turkey, in December last year, put it into operation in January and started to supply electricity to the system,” said Zorlu Energy Investments, Operations and Maintenance General Manager Ali Kindap.

“In this way, we will provide approximately 6 million kWh of energy per year with the commissioning of the Solar Power Plant at the installed power of our Alasehir Geothermal Power Plant, which currently has a capacity of 45 MW,” added Kindap.

Kindap also stated that Zorlu Energy will continue investing on hybrid power plants. Similar efforts are already ongoing in the Kizildere 2 and Kizildere 3 geothermal power plants.
