Workshop – Geothermal Direct Use in Turkey, Sept. 15, 2021

Workshop – Geothermal Direct Use in Turkey, Sept. 15, 2021 Workshop announcement
Alexander Richter 12 Sep 2021

A workshop in Turkish on geothermal direct use in Turkey will be held online Sept. 15, 2021 in cooperation with World Bank, ESMAP, Stantec and Reykjavik Geothermal.

A workshop on the direct use of geothermal resources in Turkey, organized jointly by the World Bank, ESMAP, Stantec and Reykjavik Geothermal, will take place on September 15, 2021. Attention, the workshop will be held in Turkish only.

Turkey is endowed with abundant geothermal resources, with an estimated potential of 60,000 MWt. Of this, 40,000 MWt is hot enough to be used for electricity generation with current technologies, which would enable a total potential electrical output of 4,000 MWe. The remaining geothermal resource, about 20,000 MWt, is of medium to low temperature and would thus be suitable for direct use.

This workshop presents the findings from the Report “Turkey – Assessment of Opportunities and Interest in Direct Uses of Geothermal Energy”. The workshop will present a summary of the geothermal resources in Turkey and their associated potential; the technical and economic viability of different alternatives for geothermal direct uses in Turkey; and the detailed results for six direct use case studies. These cases, which include both greenfield and brownfield projects, have provided the technical and economic information required to predict the costs and benefits of the full development of Turkey’s geothermal direct use potential.
