Acmepoint Energy Services receives geothermal exploration permit in Taiwan
Acmepoint Energy Services Taiwan has received a geothermal exploration permit in northern Taiwan, eyeing the development of a geothermal power plant from H2 2026.
Acmepoint Energy Services Taiwan has obtained exploration permits for a geothermal project in northern Taiwan and is expected to begin exploration in December. If exploration goes smoothly, construction of a geothermal power plant could begin as early as the second half of next year, marking a significant step for the company’s energy transition strategy and Taiwan’s renewable energy ambitions.
Acmepoint Energy Services Taiwan has confirmed that it has obtained the required exploration permit planning to begin on-site exploration activities in December, with temperature testing, well data assessment and confirmation of resource potential.
If results are favourable, construction of a geothermal power plant could begin as early as the second half of next year. The company estimates that a completed facility would generate more than 100 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually.
Geothermal as part of Taiwan’s baseload supply
Taiwan is advancing geothermal development as part of efforts to expand its baseload green electricity. High temperatures, stable year-round output and low emissions have made geothermal a strategic resource within national energy planning. Northern Taiwan contains several identified high-potential zones based on recent government-supported surveys.
Regulatory clarity has improved under the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ geothermal exploration and development framework, which defines licensing procedures for exploration and production. This has encouraged more companies to enter Taiwan’s geothermal sector.
Acmepoint Energy Services Taiwan operates across four main business areas that include solar energy, resilient grid systems, geothermal development and carbon sequestration. The company combines engineering, procurement and construction capabilities with energy management technologies, enabling it to undertake full-cycle development of renewable-energy projects.
The company recently reported stronger performance through improved cost control and project execution. With the geothermal exploration permit now secured, geothermal development is expected to become a growing part of its operational portfolio.
Potential contribution to Taiwan’s geothermal sector
Taiwan has identified geothermal resources in five priority zones that represent most of the island’s development potential. Northern Taiwan, where Acmepoint Energy Services Taiwan is preparing to explore, is among these high-priority regions.
Previous exploration campaigns across these zones have recorded promising reservoir temperatures and flow indicators. If the upcoming exploration confirms viable conditions, the project would add to Taiwan’s early pipeline of commercial geothermal developments.
