The Canadian Geothermal Energy Association (CanGEA) is leading a delegation of 14 Canadian companies on a market visit to Iceland to explore how Iceland is utilising its geothermal energy resources.

The Canadian Geothermal Energy Association (CanGEA) is sending a delegation to Iceland as part of their upcoming Iceland Market Visit. CanGEA is the collective voice of Canada’s geothermal energy industry with a focus on power generation and industry-scale direct use of heat from geothermal resources.

CanGEA’s delegation features 14 Canadian companies that are eager to explore geothermal opportunities in Canada and abroad.

“This is CanGEA’s second international Market Visit. Our first one to see the Klamath Falls, Oregon direct uses of geothermal inspired a BC village to build a GeoPark. We are anticipating that the visit to Iceland will cement in the minds of Canadians, that geothermal heat is a renewable energy that can solve many of Canada’s challenges with respect to clean electricity and heat, local food and economic diversification.

Further, the use of oil & gas workers in the geothermal industry will assist the oil patch employment crisis in Western Canada. We are excited to bring to the world, some of the most skilled geoscience, drilling and equipment providers, the geothermal industry has even seen, courtesy of Canada’s extensive history with natural resources. We expect that many of our delegation members will find new opportunities within the global geothermal energy sector.“ says Alison Thompson, CanGEA’s chair.

The main event of the market visit will be the Iceland Geothermal Conference, which will be held April 26 – 29, 2016 in Reykjavik. The conference will be hosted by the Icelandic geothermal cluster initiative and will feature three main streams on operability, feasibility and practicality of geothermal projects.

At the various social functions, Canadian delegation members are looking forward connecting with international representatives to discuss opportunities of cooperation in bringing geothermal energy development to Canada.

CanGEA will publish the 2016 Canadian Trade Commissioner Service – Geothermal Energy Industry Skills and Projects Profile during the reception.
