The Chinese National Energy Administration expresses their intention to start developing geothermal projects and targets and initial 100 MW by the end of the year. The main aim is to allow local governments to submit proposal and develop geothermal as soon as possible.

In a recent statement from the Chinese National Energy Administration, the asian giant has decided to start developing geothermal power from a commercial point of view.

According to Bloomberg news, the announcement was done to local authorities in order for them to start drafting plans and aiming at 2020, six years down the line. The same statement concludes that the initial focus should be done primarily in areas where high-temperature resources are readily available and then those areas that might have hot, dry-rock foundations. Demonstration projects are planned for north, central and southwestern areas of the mainland with regional targets established between 2015 and 2017.

The initial estimations by the government is to develop 100 MW by the end of the following year and also establishing power prices for projects that are being commercialised.
