Dig Energy has announced that it has broken ground and completed its first commercial geothermal heating and cooling installation at 100MAG, the AI and innovation hub of construction and real estate enterprise Suffolk in Boston, Massachusetts. The project also the first deployment of Dig Energy’s compact, modular rig on an active commercial jobsite. Site drilling at 100MAG began in early August and was completed in approximately two weeks.
Dig Energy’s value proposition is making geothermal heating, cooling, and refrigeration accessible and affordable at commercial scale using its proprietary drilling platform. The purpose-built drill uses high-pressure fluid drilling instead of traditional carbide drill bits, thus reducing borehole installation costs by up to 80%. Moreover, the technology runs with a fraction of the crew, footprint, and disruption of conventional drilling equipment, and the active work area at any given time occupies just a few parking spaces.

Using Dig Energy gives Suffolk a live deployment of geothermal, enabling the national general contractor to better evaluate the scale and affordability of the energy source for future commercial jobs. The partnership also gives Dig Energy access to its core growth markets through Suffolk’s energy-heavy clientele, such as educational facilities and data centers.
