Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) has set April 18, 2021 as start of the drilling campaign for the 70 MW Aluto Langano geothermal project in Ethiopia.

Announced on state-owned Ethiopian Electric Power website, the company’s CEO Asheber Balcha has directed the Aluto Langano Geothermal Expansion Project to begin drilling on 18th April, 2021.

He said water supply is crucial for the continuation of the project and urged the remaining works to be completed as soon as possible.

Generation construction Executive Officer, Assefa Nigusse, and representatives of the World Bank, which is financing the project, evaluated the ongoing work.

The Aluto Langano geothermal plant has a capacity of 7.5 MW yet has not been operating in a  long time, and the expansion project plans to add a geothermal power generation capacity of 70 MW.
