KenGen has officially started drilling work for client EEP at the Aluto-Langano geothermal power project in Ethiopia.

On May 30, 2021, drilling has officially started for the Aluto-Langano geothermal project by Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP), as reported by the company’s project manager, Mesaye Fekadu.

The drilling was scheduled to take place in mid-April, but was delayed due to lack of water supply and other remaining works, he said.

“So far, drilling operations are running smoothly as the team moves to the next hole section. Drilling a single well takes about two months to complete. We however hope to shorten this period despite the prevailing circumstances brought about by Covid-19,” so KenGen Managing Director and CEO Rebecca Miano.

Miano stated that KenGen would within the next three weeks mobilize specialized drilling services crew including aerated drillers, directional drillers, and reservoir engineers to ensure the project was a success.

Steam search well drilling has officially begun since all the pertinent problems are resolved and the remaining work has completed.

EEP CEO, Ashebir Balcha, congratulates the team for achieving a successful milestone in Ethiopian geothermal program.
