While electricity prices in the state of Hawaii rise, geothermal should become more and more of a valid option for the state.

With increasing oil prices, residential electricity prices on the islands of Hawaii are rising. Hawaii has the highest electricity costs in the U.S. on a consistent basis because of its dependence on expensive fuel oil for power generation.

Prices are though different for the different islands, the average for the state of Hawaii is $37.05 per kWh, on Kauai it is $0.451, on Hawaii island it is $0.41, on Maui it is $38.8 and on Oahu it is $0.351.

These high prices should be sufficient incentive for the state to look at renewable energy sources, such as geothermal in the state. … maybe even help to answer some of the opposition that geothermal faces.
