The rehabilitation work at the Bacon-Manito will cost EDC a total of around $100 million due to the need to replace turbines at Units I and II.

Philippine geothermal company EDC expects the rehabilitation cost for the 150 MW geothermal power plant complex at Bacon-Manito to cost up to $100 million.

The Bacon-Manito geothermal power plant complex is located in Bacon, Sorsogon and Manito, Albay.

So far, so the company, about $78 million have been spent since EDC acquired the facilities at Bacon-Manito.

Now the company has to replace the turbines of Unit I and Unit II, which will be an additional combined cost of $25 million. With the rehabilitation of Unit III of the complex the overall cost will be around $100 million.

Unit I and II have an installed capacity of 55 MW each and Unit III a capacity of 20 MW.

The rehabilitation work was necessary due to damages caused by flood and landslides prior to EDC acquiring the complex, which – in the case of Unit III require a replacement of the turbine and generator.

“Unit I is running and if it clears inspection now before elections, we will run it and inspect it after a longer period, maybe 60 to 90 days, and if it clears 90 days, we will keep it running,” EDC president Tantoco said.

He said unit III was running at the pre-commissioning stage.

Tantoco said the company had ordered a generator due to arrive next year.

He said the Bacman geothermal plants should deliver P4 billion to P4.2 billion ($98-102 million) worth of revenues and P2.8 billion ($68 million) in net income.
