Following initial drilling results and tests, Électricité de Strasbourg is planning with additional costs for the development of its Illkirch geothermal heat and power project in Alsace/ France.

Reported locally today, the utility Électricité de Strasbourg in France has reported that it will experience additional cost for its Illkirch geothermal project in Alsace/ France.

Work on the project started in 2018 with the plan to build a plant that will produce electricity and heat.

The geological complexities encountered during the drilling of the first well to a depth of 3,400 m, have an impact on the planning and budget of the project, for an additional cost estimated at EUR 15 million.

The flow tests of this well, delayed by the health crisis, have just been completed. The results obtained indicate lower than the targeted objectives.

This will lead ÉS to supplement these tests with a modeling study. ÉS will adapt, if necessary, its project to the results of this study expected during the first half of 2021.
