Power plant technology company Turboden and U.S. geothermal developer Fervo Energy are to work on the development of dispatchable and flexible power generation with geothermal ORC plants.

In a release yesterday, US-based geothermal developer Fervo Energy, and Turboden, a pioneer in the industry of Organic Rankine Cycle (binary) power plants, announce their partnership to develop solutions for dispatchable and flexible power generation from Organic Rankine Cycle geothermal plants.

This partnership will combine Fervo’s subsurface development expertise with Turboden’s substantial experience of installing 400 Organic Rankine Cycle units in forty-five different countries for over forty different applications.

Together they will work to develop the next generation of flexible, modular geothermal power plants to bring even more value to the modern electric grid.

“Geothermal power has a significant role to play in decarbonizing the most challenging parts of the electricity sector by providing 24/7 renewable energy. This partnership with Turboden will continue to drive value for geothermal by adding flexible services to help compliment intermittency from wind and solar resources. We are thrilled to be working with a world-class company like Turboden to tackle these important challenges,” said Fervo Energy CEO Tim Latimer.

“Fervo’s core knowhow in subsurface development and Turboden’s advanced power plant technology will work together to achieve a comprehensive optimization of the geothermal process, from the reservoir to the power grid. We believe that the tradition of our systems will be strengthened by Fervo’s unique offering, to provide customers with baseload green energy,” added Joseph Bonafin, Turboden Sales and Business Development Manager.

Fervo commercializes technology to develop, own, and operate geothermal assets as the dispatchable foundation to a 100% clean energy future. Fervo is supported through Cyclotron Road, the Department of Energy, Stanford University, and Breakthrough Energy Ventures. Turboden is a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries group company and Italian firm and a global leader in the design, manufacture, and maintenance of Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) systems to explore flexible geothermal.
