Having confirmed a geothermal resource in the Paka sector of the Baringo-Silali Geothermal Project, GDC is now conducting appraisal drilling to define its boundaries

The Geothermal Development Company has started drilling the first appraisal well, PW-04, in the Paka Field in the Baringo-Silali Geothermal Project in Kenya. This is following confirmation of the existence of a geothermal resource in the field. GDC has previously drilled a 17-MW well in Paka, one of the most powerful wells in the area, as we have reported.

The purpose of appraisal drilling is to define the boundaries of a geothermal resource area. PW-04 is the fourth well drilled in the Paka field with all three previous wells delivering positive results. Stephen Kangogo, Principal Officer of GDC’s Drilling and Infrastructure, is confident of the drilling team’s progress in the field.

Meanwhile, drilling of the third well in the Korosi prospect is also ongoing. Korosi is also within the Baringo-Silali Geothermal Project. Should the results of Korosi prove successful, the team will then proceed to appraisal drilling.
