Geothermal Development Company plans start of a new exploration campaign in the North Rift later this year. The company plans to start with the Silali project with four new additional drilling rigs that would fast-track the drilling campaign.

Geothermal Development Company announces that it plans to start geothermal exploration in the North Rift later this year.

GDC plans to start with the Silali area. The company’s Corporate Communication Manager Ruth Musembi says that GDC will soon receive four additional rigs that would fast-track geothermal drilling.

With the current high power prices that have been pegged on expensive generation of electricity due to unreliable hydro generation geothermal experts are working on tapping the resource in new areas.

The Company has been carrying out exploration and drilling of wells in Menengai. This is expected to boost energy production and assist development of the Baringo county by improving  infrastructure such as roads that would be used to move drilling equipment to geothermal sites.

Musembi says they would have a total of seven rigs that would fast track drilling of wells.
