The Swisss Federal Office of Energy is partially funding a geothermal exploration campaign in the town of Gruyere in Switzerland to be executed by Gruyere Energie AG.

Gruyere Energie AG is planning to carry out a study to examine the geothermal potential in the town of Gruyere in the Fribourg canton of Switzerland. The exploratory campaign is expected to start next summer and will be funded partially with CHF 2.4 million (approx. USD 2.45 million)  by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy. The entire exploration campaign has an estimated cost of CHF 4 million (approx. USD 4.1 million).

Should the geothermal potential of the area prove to be large enough, one or more exploratory wells can be drilled from 2026, with the aim of tapping the resource by 2028.

There has been lots of activity in Switzerland in terms of geothermal exploration. In Lavey-les-Bains, we reported on the start of directional drilling for a project being developed by the Alpine Geothermal Power Production (AGEPP). Seismic campaigns have identified several promising geothermal sites in La Cote, incidentally close to the Vinzel site where a drilling pad is already being prepared.
