Green Energy Group completes delivery and installation of a 5 MW modular wellhead geothermal power plant for KenGen on location at Olkaria, Kenya.

Already reported in June 2012, Norwegian Green Energy Group has completed delivery and installation of a modular 5 MW geothermal power plant in Kenya. Green Energy Group, while Norway-based, builds upon an engineering team based in Iceland.

The plant is based on a container based geothermal unit, that – so the company description – allows boreholes to be harnessed at an earlier stage within weeks after drilling has been completed. The company offers the units as stand-alone units, or to be organized in a combined set-up for larger scale power generation. The units can be used for wet/ dry steam, as well as binary/ flash geothermal systems. The plant has now been producing power since February 2012.

While not comparable, but it seems similar to the modular approach chosen by Raser Technologies with UTC units at the Thermo No.1  plant in Utah.

Terje Laugerud, CEO of Green Energy Group said that his company now has “a site to show the company’s solution to new customers”, and that “this is a very important milestone for the company and its shareholders.” The modular approach “enables the customer KenGen to get power online for existing wells much sooner and optimize power utilization on their wells.”
