Hawaiian Electric Light Company (HELCO) has provided an update on timing for the process for the bidding on a Request for Proposals on a 50 MW geothermal development on the Island of Hawaii and expects to announce the final award group of companies on November 30, 2013.

With bids handed in April this year, utility Hawaiian Electric  Light Company (HELCO) will be announcing the selection of the final award group of its Request for Proposals at the end of this month.

The RFP is for 50 MW of Dispatchable Renewable Geothermal Firm Capacity Generation on the island of Hawaii.

The selection will be announced on November 30, 2013. It is then expected that HELCO will complete the Interconnection Requirements Study and Power Purchase Agreement Negotiations by March/ April 2014. An executed PPA will then be handed in for Commission approval in April/ May 2014 (30 days after the completion of the PPA negotiations).

We will continue to follow up on this RFP to find out what companies are actually bidding. A subsidiary of Chevron has been named as a potential bidder and so has NZ-Hawaiian group IDC.
