In this role, the candidate is expected to work as a team member in leading research and development and program building focused on science and engineering solutions for unconventional fossil energy extraction and/or geothermal energy development.

The Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking candidates with experience in the areas of geothermal and/or unconventional fossil energy for a senior staff position in subsurface science. In this role, the candidate is expected to work as a team member in leading research and development and program building focused on science and engineering solutions for unconventional fossil energy extraction and/or geothermal energy development.

The candidate is expected to have a national/international reputation that provides a foundation to help lead the planning and technical implementation of a successful enhanced geothermal system Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy (FORGE) demonstration at the INL. Expertise in a variety of technical disciplines will be considered, and could include specialization in well design, geochemistry, geological conceptual model development, visualization, stimulation technique development and implementation, and development of innovative analysis methods, etc., as applicable to subsurface energy extraction. The candidate will serve as liaison for INL to DOE, other national laboratories, and universities on subsurface energy topics and will exercise considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignments.

The successful candidate may also act as a group lead for INL’s Energy Resource Recovery & Sustainability Department to support and guide the development of department technical strategy as well as the implementation of approaches to assure technical quality of required products, deliverables, publications, and presentations. Qualifications An advanced degree in applied science or engineering with 7+ years’ experience is required; a PhD is preferred.
