The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has released its annual overview on employment in the renewable energy space, with an estimated 94,000 jobs in the geothermal energy sector.

The widespread adoption of renewable energy technologies creates employment opportunities up and down the supply chain. Worldwide, the sector employed 11 million people at the end of 2018, according to this sixth edition of the Renewable Energy and Jobs series by the International Renewable Energy Agency.

According to the study, IRENA estimates an overall global employment in the geothermal energy sector of around 94,000 people, of which around 35,000 jobs are based in the United States, 23,000 in the European Union (including heat pumps) and 2,500 in China.
