Kazimierz Biskupi, Poland awards contract for geothermal drilling

The contract for the drilling of the first geothermal well in Kazimierz Biskupi, Poland has been awarded to UOS Drilling, 100% funded by a government grant.

The municipal government of Kazimierz Biskupi in Poland has signed an agreement with UOS drilling for the drilling of the first geothermal well in the commune, as it seeks to develop geothermal resources to attract investments. About 18 months have been allocated the preparation and drilling of the well.

The geothermal well will be drilled on Lotnicza Street to a planned depth of 2620 meters. According to early estimates, thermal waters at 80 to 90 ºC and flowrates of about 100 cubic meters per hour are expected to be tapped by the well. Grzegorz Maciejewski, mayor of the Kazimierz Biskupi commune, however cautions that the parameters of the resource can only be determined after drilling the well. Only then will it be possible for the commune to continue talks with future investors.

The mayor further adds that the project has been 100% financed by the PLN 19 million funding awarded to the commune from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOSiGW) back in 2024. This will be enough to cover the execution of the drilling work and the necessary documentation. The contracted cost falls within this allocated amount.

The Kazimierz Biskupi commune has already prepared about 600 hectares of investment land for businesses, divided into northern and southern zones. Henryk Drzewiecki, Vice-Chair of the Regional Assembly of the Greater Poland Voivodeship (Wielkopolska), also commented that the regional government is supportive of the project. Should the geothermal well be proven productive, the regional government will seek financial support for the next stages of investment.

Based on the updates of UOS Drilling, the drilling company has been playing an important role in the recent wave of new geothermal drilling projects in Poland. In just the past months of the year, the company has started or completed drilling in Jablonna, Radoszyce, Banska Nizna, Bialka Tatrzanstka, and Nowy Dwor Mazowiecki. Geothermal drilling contracts have also been signed with Kalisz and Wloclawek.
