Tests by KUTh Energy confirm naturally fractured hot rock prospect and potential drilling targets at the company's EGS project in Tasmania, Australia.

Reported from Australia, “A KUTh Energy (ASX: KEN) magnetotelluric (MT) survey has provided some evidence to support a potential interpretation of a Naturally Fractured Hot Rock (NFHR) geothermal play beneath the Lemont Inferred Geothermal Resource in Tasmania.

NFHR is a concept in which geothermal development targets hot natural fluids hosted by deep, permeable fracture systems.

The concept also unites the strengths of existing concepts such as Hot Dry Rock (HDR) and Hot Sedimentary Aquifer (HSA) through a combination of in situ permeability, potential for high fluid flow rates and likelihood of high temperatures derived from a local high-heat-producing granitic source.

David McDonald, managing director, said, “The company is buoyed by the confirmation of this unique Naturally Fractured Hot Rock prospect which has once again been brought about as a result of our methodical approach to scientific exploration.”

“KUTh has now collated a considerable amount of data towards location of its drilling target with projects like the MT survey continuing to form a critical component of the company’s risk mitigation strategy.”

KUTh said the improved resolution provided by the 2010 MT infill has confirmed that the electrically conductive targets are within drillable depth (2-4km) at Lemont, with the new results provide sufficient information to enable accurate drill targeting of the Tamar Conductivity Zone anomaly in the area.”
