The International Geothermal Association (IGA) has launched a book on "Geothermal Exploration- Global Strategies and Applications" covering the subject of geothermal energy and its development around the world. It is available via the IGA Website.

The IGA book “Geothermal Exploration- Global Strategies and Applications” covers the subject of geothermal energy and its development around the world. The book defines a series of ‘geothermal play types’ based on geological setting and presents strategies and methodologies appropriate for each play type to move a geothermal exploration program to the stage of committing to exploration drilling. The methodologies include permitting, environmental, geology, geochemistry, geophysics and remote sensing techniques used throughout the world for specific play types. The book covers a large number of geoscientific techniques and focuses on their applications to both convective and conductive geothermal systems, with extensive reference to the international literature.

The Table of Contents covers:

  • Catalog of geothermal play types
  • Process of geothermal development
  • Data collection and exploration methods
  • Strategies for geothermal exploration at magmatic plays
  • Strategies for exploration in convection-dominated extensional domain plays
  • Exploration for conduction-dominated plays
  • Requirements for the pre-feasibility study

The book can be purchased at the IGA booth at the European Geothermal Congress in Strasbourg at a price of 46.01 EUR (incl. tax) or through the IGA online facility at a price of 55.64 EUR (incl. tax and shipping) via: https://www.geothermal-energy.org/iga-shop/
