The lessons and recommendations from the nationally appropriate mitigation action to accelerate geothermal development in Kenya.

In its National Climate Change Action Plan (NCCAP), Kenya has outlines its ambitions to significantly expand its power supply from geothermal sources.

While there has been some success, as can be shown in the recent additions to geothermal power generation capacity in Olkaria, there is more private sector involvement needed to reach the even more ambitious goals.

The government of Kenya has therefore developed a Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action (NAMA) to mobilise private investment by channelling targeted international climate finance and technical support.

In a recent brief by the Climate & Development Knowledge Network, the authors look at the challenges that Kenya faced, the lessons learned and the recommendations for future NAMA development in Kenya and elsewhere.

The document provides a great overview that could be interesting not only for the other Eastern African countries but also for other countries that want to pursue geothermal development and need to attract funding.
