Maibarara project signs EPC contracts for transmission and construction

The 20 MW Maibarara geothermal power project in Luzon, Philippines has signed EPC contracts with Meralco Industrial Engineering Services for transmission line component of the project and a general EPC contract with Yokogawa Philippines, planning to have an operating plant at the end of 2013.

In an announcement to the Philippine Stock Exchange, PetroEnergy Resources  (PERC) reports that Maibarara Geothermal, Inc. (MGI) signed EPC contracts for the 20 MW Maibarara Geothermal Power Project.

MGI is a joint-venture firm, by Trans-Asia Oil and Energy Development Corp. (25%), PNOC Renewables Corp. (10%), and PetroGreen Energy Corp (65%), a wholly-owned subsidiary of distribution utility, Manila Electric Company (MERALCO).

“Maibarara Geothermal, Inc. (MGI) signed an EPC contract with Meralco Industrial Engineering Services Corp. (MIESCOR), for the transmission line component of the project. Under the contract, MIESCOR will execute the design, supply, deliver, installation, and testing of the 115 kV transmisson facility. The transmission line covers 6km from MGI’s power plant being constructed in Sitio Capuz, Barangay San Rafael, Sto. Tomas, Batangas to the tapping point in MERALCO’s existing 115 kV line in Calamba, Laguna. MIESCOR will complete the construction and testing of the Maibarara transmission line facility by the end of May 2013.

In related development, MGI also signed an EPC contract with Yokogawa Philippines, Inc. (YPI) on December 4, 2012 for the design, supply, delivery, installation, testing and commissioning of the instrumentation and control systems of the Maibarara power plant and steamfield facilities. YPI will complete the installation and testing of the instrumentation and control system by June 2013.

The 20 MW Maibarara geothermal power project is the first renewable energy project under the 2008 RE Law declared commercial by the Department of Energy in November 2011. MGI is targeting initial testing of the integrated power facility by July 2013 with full commercial operations by the fourth quarter of 2013. When put into commerical operation, it will be the first geothermal power project under the Aquino administration and the first geothermal power station in Luzon in 16 years.”
