Mighty River Power increases its overall electricity generation by 34% based mostly on its new geothermal power plant Nga Awa, which it commissioned in April 2010.

Reported from New Zealand, Mighty River Power has generated 34% more electricity compared to the same quarter last year. This is due by a new geothermal power plant, as well as some heavy rainfalls.

Mighty River Power, a state-owned company, runs nine hydro power plants and the geothermal power plants in Taupo and in the Bay of Plenty in Northern New Zealand.

With 1,831 GWh of electricity generation, geothermal volumes, so the news, were “up 54% from the year before reflecting the contribution of the Nga Awa Geothermal Power Station commissioned in April”.

For people with analytical interest, the note on the electricity prices achieved should be interesting. The wholesale price had an average of NZ$52/ MWh (US$~39), which is a 10-12% increase over last year.
