Orka Energy reaches milestone, with Sinopec Green Energy Geothermal Development Co, a JV by Chines Sinopec and Orka, having drilled well no. 100 in Hebei province, China. The company is operating and developing geothermal district heating projects in China, helping to replace fossil fuel based heating.

In an email to ThinkGeoEnergy today, ORKA Energy reached a new milestone in its China operations this month when the drilling of geothermal well no. 100 was completed in Hebei province. This will take the number of production- and reinjection wells operated by Sinopec Green Energy Geothermal Development Co., Ltd (SGEG) to a total of 106 for the coming heating season.

Additionally, 17 new heat centrals will be added to the operations of SGEG in Hebei and Shandong provinces before the start of the coming heating season, which will add another 5 million m2 of heating capacity to SGEG´s China operations.

This addition will take the total number of heat centrals operated under SGEG to 81. The total heating capacity of SGEG will reach 15 million m2 in the coming heating season with plans in place to expand to 30 million m2 by 2015 and 100 million m2 by 2020.

With SGEG currently in the process of negotiating new concession agreements and expanding its environmentally friendly energy solutions into more cities and areas across China, the management team at SGEG is already looking into other areas of sustainable energy utilization in line with China´s official policy of reducing carbon emissions. SGEG‘s first electricity generation project based on waste heat utilization will be connected to the grid in late 2014 with more such projects already in the planning stages.

Improvements and maintenance work has furthermore been conducted on much of SGEG´s existing equipment with the aim of increasing operational efficiency with a new state of the art monitoring system for SGEG´s Hebei operations being taking into operation at the start of the coming heating season.
