Hungarian PannErgy reports on the success of its fourth well drilled for the Györ geothermal district heating project in Hungary. With positive temperatures and flow rates, the construction of the plant is in progress.

Hungarian geothermal energy company PannErgy announced yesterday, that its subsidiary Arrabona Geothermal Ltd., that its fourth well  (BON-PE-02) drilled for the Györ geothermal project has reached the targeted fault zone in the predetermined layer formation, total mud loss occurred, and shows very positive results.

Therefore the implementation of the Geothermal Project of Györ arrived at the final phase with the successful drilling works of BON-PE-02 well, that was started in Böny this July. Implemented with the use of directional deflected drilling, the deepening of re-injection well BON-PE-02 took 48 days to complete flawlessly, without technical and geological difficulties, in line with the preliminary schedule.

Total mud loss occurred at a depth of 2,430–2,450 meters. Thanks to the pre-drilling 3D seismic measurements and information obtained during the drilling of the previous three wells, the geological and hydrogeological information were properly developed and the drilling penetrated the Triassic dolomite aquifers in the planned depth.

Information generated from the recessed wells of Györ Geothermal Project also contributed to gain a more accurate cognition of the geological structure of the area. After the completion of drilling operations, the mud used for drilling has been replaced to water then works continued with the launching and cleaning of the well. The preliminary test results reflect that on the surface the thermal water found in the hit layer features 120–130 litres/second self-flowing water yield at 100 degrees Celsius. The upcoming days the long-term testing and production of the well is taking place.

“Simultaneously with the closing drilling works in Böny, in August, the construction of the surface facilities progressed on schedule. Besides the final structural construction works of the Heat Distribution Center of B?ny the recultivation has also started. As part of the technological works, installation of heat exchangers, pumps and its connecting pipeline constructions have finished, technology installation at the Heat Distribution Center of Böny will finish next week, while electrical assembly and control technology works continue.” – stated Bala?zs Bokorovics, Chairman of the Board of Directors.
