Basic Energy Corp. reports that the Philippine DOE has approved its applications for geothermal service contracts for three areas, East Mankayan in Benguet, Mariveles in Bataan, and Irigia in Camarines Sur.

Basic Energy Corp. reported yesterday,  “it recently received the (Philippine) Department of Energy’s (DOE) approval of its applications for geothermal renewable energy service contracts for three frontier areas, namely in East Mankayan in Benguet, Mariveles in Bataan, and Iriga in Camarines Sur.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), Basic said it has passed the legal, technical and financial requirements prescribed by the DOE for these areas. The projects are in line with the 2012 business thrust to look into new projects in renewable energy development and production.

Basic added that it seeks to expand its lineup of projects for the exploration and development of geothermal energy resources, hydropower and biomass energy for power generation.

Basic said the East Mankayan geothermal area is in the east of the Cervantes, llocos Sur geothermal block of Pan Pacific Power Philippines Inc., south of the Bontoc-Sadanga block, which is operated by Magma Energy Resources and immediately south of the Daklan block operated by Clean Rock Energy.

Basic added that the area actually covers the three provinces of Benguet, Mountain Province and Ifugao.

The Mariveles, Bataan geothermal area is situated on the West Luzon Volcanic Arc that starts from Mount Pinatubo in the north and extends farther south across the Manila Bay towards Batangas and northeastern Mindoro.

The Iriga, Camarines Sur geothermal area is bound to the north by the lsarog geothermal block of Philippine National Oil Co.-Renewables Corp. and to the east by the highly productive Tiwi geothermal service contract area of formerly Chevron, now AP Renewables Inc.”
