The New Zealand - Africa Geothermal Facility is inviting participants to attend the 2nd edition of the East Africa Geothermal Facility Webinar Series.
The Africa Geothermal Facility is pleased to invite you to participate in the East Africa Geothermal Facility Webinar Series 2, an online series of webinars on geothermal energy.
The courses are intended to reach a range of professionals across the geothermal technical disciplines. They are open to both the public and private East Africa energy sector workforce including energy experts such as Geoscientists, Reservoir and Drilling Engineers, Power Plant Engineers and other technical specialisations, Directors/Managers, Project Managers and Developers, Ministry staff, Energy Agencies, Companies, Regulatory Bodies, Universities, Transmission and Distribution entities and more.
The Geothermal Institute previously ran a successful series of 9 webinars for East Africa in 2021. This further series (series 2) of 12 webinars in 2022 builds on those foundations and presents up-to-date and new topics. The webinars are generally 1.5 hours in length and include a pre-recorded video presentation, possibly with links to additional reading.
Participants’ questions will be addressed in a later live Zoom Q&A session. The course presenters are internationally recognized experts in their field from New Zealand and they will be available during the live Q&A sessions. Depending on interest and expertise, participants can choose which sessions to attend or attend the whole series.
This webinar series has been organized by the Geothermal Institute, The University of Auckland, New Zealand in partnership with the African Union Commission (AUC) and the Africa Geothermal Centre of Excellence (AGCE) with funding by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT).

- Understanding different types of geothermal systems
- The inter-disciplinary geoscience roles required during geothermal exploration and development
- Geothermal well testing: an overview (Registration currently open)
- Overview of geothermal slimhole drilling; well delivery process, and well design (Registration currently open)
- Sources of funding – grants, equity, debt
- Understanding geothermal models
- Above-ground geothermal engineering
- Owner engineer role – overview of specifications, EPC tenders, managing contracts
- Wellhead power plants: some what’s, why’s, and h0w’s, and the successes and things that could be better
- Inside a binary plant – processes and machinery
- Direct use
- Physical controls on hydrothermal fluid flow in East Africa
The Q & A sessions for webinars 3 and 4 are scheduled for May 17 and May 19, respectively, at 10 AM East Africa Time. Registration is currently open for these two webinars via this link.
