KenGen is currently accepting proposals for consultancy services to conduct a feasibility study for a proposed extension of the Olkaria II geothermal power station.
KenGen has published a Request for Proposals (RFP) for feasibility study on a proposed extension of the Olkaria II geothermal power plant in Nakuru County, Kenya. Details on the tender are available in the official tender document.
Interested participants must submit the completed RFP document online on or before 7 February 2023. There shall also be a mandatory site visit and pre-bid conference on 24 January 2023 at Geothermal Plaza, located in the Olkaria field.
The proposed work will involve conducting technical, economic, financial, and environmental analyses of the proposed Olkaria II extension project. This will include evaluation of the well data, technology analysis, cost estimation, and an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment study. The study is expected to take 6 months to complete.
The Olkaria II geothermal power station has a current installed capacity of 105 MW split between three units (3 x 35 MW). It started commercial operations on 2003 with the first two units and the the third unit came online in 2010. One turbine was recently repaired and restored to the original 35-MWe capacity after a period of underperformance.
