The joint venture company GEOOL S.A. will be conducting a seismic campaign to evaluate the potential geothermal resource in the region of Lausanne, Switzerland.

Géothermie de l’Ouest Lausanne (GEOOL S.A.) and the Services industriels de Lausanne (SiL) have announced that a seismic campaign will be conducted in the city of Lausanne and the region west of it to map the site’s potential geothermal resource. If the survey proves successful, two exploratory wells can be drilling 2026 to 2028 which can supply heating to cover the needs of up to 6000 households.

GEOOL S.A. is a joint venture formed in 2021 between SiL, Service Intercommunal de l’Electricité (SIE), and Romande Energie with the purpose of tapping into the geothermal resources in and around the city of Lausanne.

Vibrating trucks will move along about 80 kilometers of pre-determined routes in the Lausanne region. To minimize noise pollution, the trucks will do their work at night and will emit vibrations at each point for only about 15 minutes. GEOOL S.A. has provided an interactive map on their website that shows the routes and where the trucks will be for the next 24 hours.
