A group of representatives from Eastern Caribbean states visited Dominica to learn from the ongoing geothermal development project in Roseau Valley.

A group of representatives from Eastern Caribbean countries recently held a Study Tour at the ongoing geothermal development in Dominica as part of a campaign to learn about geothermal exploration and drilling, and foster regional cooperation and collaboration on geothermal energy.

The study tour was part of the Geothermal Energy: Capacity Building for Utilisation, Investment and Local Development (GEOBUILD) programme under the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). Members from the beneficiary member states of Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and St. Kitts and Nevis were part of the study tour held from 3 to 5 April 2023.

The team was given a detailed presentation on the geothermal development project in Roseau Valley, Dominica. This was followed by a tour led by the Dominica Geothermal Development Company (DGDC) to the sites of the three production wells and the drilling site of the reinjection well. Participants were able to observe the ongoing preparations for the flow test of production well RV-P2 (flow testing has since started).

GEOBUILD is designed to respond to the needs of participating OECS Member States for advancing geothermal energy development. The project will facilitate collaboration on geothermal energy not only with the beneficiary countries, but also with other Member States of the region that have an interest in exploring geothermal resources.

The project is consistent with the overall aim of the OECS to promote cooperation among the Member States at the regional and international levels. GEOBUILD is funded by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) with a grant of US$3.1 Million with funding support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the European Union Caribbean Investment Facility.
