EDA Renováveis, SA has announced a public tender for the expansion of the existing Pico Vermelho geothermal power plant in the Azores, Portugal.

Renewable energy company EDA Renováveis, SA has announced a major update on its geothermal power plant at Pico Vermelho in Azores, Portugal. The company has launched a public call for the construction of the expansion of the Pico Vermelho Geothermal Power Plant , which will include the installation of a new generator with a net production of 10 to 11 MW and associated equipment, as well as the construction of a technical building and other necessary infrastructure.

The contract, which is classified as a “Works” contract, has a base price of €36 million. The term for the execution of the contract is set at 650 days.

The company has stated that the contract will take environmental criteria into account and that the successful bidder must present the necessary certificates and permits to demonstrate their professional qualifications.

The expansion of the Pico Vermelho geothermal power plant is part of EDA Renováveis’ plan to increase its production of renewable energy and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. The company has committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2040 and invests in various renewable energy sources such as geothermal, wind and solar. Earlier this year, EDA Renováveis had also announced a public tender for the construction of a new geothermal power plant (Pico Vermelho Phase B) which will increase the installed capacity of the Pico Vermelho site to 20 MW.
