The proposal, entitled „Geothermics, expertise for successful economics” of Kuala Ltd. won non-repayable grant on a tender.

Kuala Ltd. is a subsidiary of PannErgy. The tender named „Meeting local heating/cooling demands with renewable energy sources” (No.: KEOP-2012-4.10.0/B) requested proposals as part of the New Széchenyi Plan – Environmental and Energy Operation Plan.

The proposal won a non-repayable grant worth of 1 billion HUF (~4.5 million USD). The proposed project aims to meet part of the heating demand of Downtown (Belváros) and Campus (Egyetemváros) districts of Miskolc with geothermal energy sources. The heating demand of these areas of currently met by the Tatár Utca thermal station.

Péter Tóth, the CEO of PannErgy Ltd. and the member of the directorate of the company stated the following: „A pipeline will be installed to the Tatár Utca thermal station and a heat transfer station will be built there as the second phase of the Geothermal Project of Miskolc. The first of phase of this project was handed over earlier this year (in May). Utilizing EU funding will make it possible to meet part of the heating and hot water needs of the consumers in the Downtown and Campus districts of Miskolc. The amount of the utilized geothermal heat will increase with at least 40% compared to the first phase of the project. The energy production capacity of the company will be better utilized with optimized operation, which fits our previously determined strategic aims. The amount of pollutants emitted, especially the amount of green house gases emitted due to the burning of natural gas will decrease due to our investment, therefore benefiting the environment.
