Three projects receive bids in Philippines geothermal tender

Three companies have been accepted as qualified bidders for three of five offered geothermal projects in an open bid round for renewable projects in the Philippines.
The Philippines Department of Energy has released details on the received open bid applications for renewable energy bids to the next stage of the open and competitive selection process round three (OCSP3).
The bid included 5 geothermal projects, we reported. DOE allowed three companies to proceed, Energy Development Corp. (EDC), Philippine Geothermal Production Company, Inc. (PGPC) and Mase Power Corp. (MPC).
DOE declared the applicants to be compliant with all the requirements at the opening of the bids yesterday. The tender process was launched in January, with the requirement to submit, among others, a work program and their technical and financial qualifications.
The companies having passed now will undergo further evaluation of their submitted documentation until March 2, 2021.
Energy Development Corporation (EDC) submitted bids for the 27 MW Daklan Geothermal Project and the 17 MW Puting Lupa Geothermal Project. Philippine Geothermal Production Company (PGPC) also bid for the Daklan project, where it will compete with EDC, and is the sole bidder for the 30 MW Mt. Labo project. Mase Power Corporation is going compete with EDC on the 17 MW Puting Lupa project.
“Three of five predetermined areas (for geothermal projects) have received a proposal,” Director of the DoE’s Renewable Energy Management Bureau (REMB) Mylene C. Capongcol said during the opening of OCSP3 bids.
The prospective geothermal projects of the 9 MW Iogon and 4 MW Maricaban projects did not receive bids.
The projects tendered as part of this Third Open and Competitive Selection Process allows 100-percent foreign participation in the development of large-scale geothermal power projects. The Department of Energy is expected to complete the legal, technical and financial evaluation of all bids on March 2 and award RE contracts on April 14.
