Dutch Transmark Renewables and German Geothermeon AG have incorporated a new Joint Venture company, Sonsuz Enerji B.V., to develop geothermal resources in Turkey, and focus on 8 licenses in western Turkey.

In news earlier in November, Dutch “Transmark Renewables and German Geothermeon AG have incorporated a new Joint Venture company, Sonsuz Enerji B.V., to develop geothermal resources in Turkey. The Joint Venture, with the operational entity Sonsuzluk ltd based in Izmir, will initially focus on the exploration of 8 licenses with a total area of approximately 200 km². The licenses are located in designated high-potential areas in Western Turkey. Operations will start towards the end of this year, and a first exploratory drilling campaign is scheduled for the 2nd half of 2011.

Turkey is one of the most attractive countries for utilizing geothermal energy worldwide. The geological setting of Turkey provides the largest geothermal potential in Europe and the Middle East. At the same time Turkey is expected to double its electricity demand over the next 10 years. The Turkish government has earmarked geothermal energy as one of the key components for supplying energy needs in the near future. Both Transmark and Geothermeon have a dedicated strategy to become leading players in the geothermal market and to contribute to the increasing demand for renewable energy globally.

Transmark Renewables is the investment company within the Transmark Holdings Group, focused on the (co-)development of geothermal energy projects. Together with Transmark EDS a directional drilling service company, the Transmark Group will provide expertise in both, drilling and project finance.

Geothermeon AG is a pure-play geothermal resource developer. Together with its affiliate Q-con GmbH, the company group has the worldwide strongest track record for developing Hot-Fractured-Rock (HFR), or Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS), respectively. Their experts worked in all major EGS/HFR projects during the last 30 years covering the entire state of knowledge in HFR/EGS up to date.

Bringing together market leading expertise in geothermal resource development, directional drilling and project finance, the Sonsuz Enerji Joint Venture forms a strong integrated platform for covering the most critical aspects of geothermal project development.”
