UK Oil & Gas PLC has announced plans for two standalone geothermal projects in the UK and the possibility of a geothermal project in Turkey.

In a release, UK Oil & Gas PLC (UKOG) reports having joined newly formed geothermal association, Geothermal Energy Advancement Association, in the United Kingdom as part of its scoping geothermal opportunities.

The company is now looking at two new standalone geothermal projects in the UK, together with a hybrid geothermal, solar and battery storage project at the company’s Horse Hill site.

At the same time UKOG reports that it plans to review geothermal opportunities onshore in Turkey, as part of another oil project. The Basur-3 appraisal well planned to be drilled is to confirm an oil reserve in an oil pool near the Turkey-Iraq border.

These announcements are rather interesting and pointing to the fact of increasing interest in geothermal by oil and gas players, not only for oil/ gas and geothermal co-production, but also standalone geothermal projects.

We will follow up.
