To be held in May 2019, the UK's third contract for difference auction for renewable energy projects, includes an opportunity for geothermal projects in the UK.

As reported late last week, the UK government has announced the prospective start date for the country’s 3rd contract for difference (CfD) auction for renewable energy projects.  The targeted date is 29 May 2019, while it could be before or later.

The now planned CfD3 round will be open to Pot 2 less-established technologies, including geothermal energy. All projects have to be delivered in 2023-2024 and 2024-2025.

The government had allocated a draft budget of GBP 60 million (around USD 77.4 million) in November 2018.
