Water infrastructure in Baringo-Silali geothermal project aids education, livelihood of communities

GDC is helping the host communities in the Paka, Korosi, and Silali geothermal projects through the construction of roads and water infrastructure.
In a video shared by Geothermal Development Corporation (GDC) in their official YouTube channel, the state-owned geothermal developer provides updates on the Menengai and Baringo-Silali geothermal projects. Part of the update is a construction of a community waterline system spanning over 100 kilometers that has greatly benefitted the communities surrounding the areas of Paka, Korosi, and Silali.
The water pipeline has proven instrumental to the support of water for livestock and domestic use. To complement the pipeline, GDC also constructed 40 livestock watering points and 20 water treatment points for domestic supply.
The stable water supply in the area has increased attendance to schools in the served areas. It has also given the communities in Paka, Korosi, and Silali access to amenities that proved to be difficult in the past. The video update by GDC is shared below:
GDC has entered the production drilling phase in the Baringo-Silali geothermal project with the start of drilling of Paka Well 3 (PW-03A), the first directional well in the site. GDC expects to develop 100 MW for the first phase of the Baringo-Silali Geothermal Project from the three prospects Paka, Korosi, and Silali.
