Geoscience BC and the Geological Survey of Canada to share update on the work and findings of this first phase of the Garibaldi Geothermal Volcanic Belt Assessment Project in Southwestern BC, Canada.

Geoscience BC and the Geological Survey of Canada have announced an Community Open House: Garibaldi Geothermal Volcanic Belt Assessment Project to be held on August 4, 2021.

Mapping, data and a final report from the first phase of the Garibaldi Geothermal Volcanic Belt Assessment Project provide the most detailed understanding to date of the potential for geothermal energy at the Mount Meager Complex. Located near Pemberton, Mount Meager is widely regarded as BC’s most promising geothermal ‘hot spot’.

This Geoscience BC and Geological Survey of Canada online community open house will provide an update on the work and findings of this first phase of the Garibaldi Geothermal Volcanic Belt Assessment Project.

Researchers will also provide an update on planning for a second phase of work in the Mount Cayley area, approximately 70km west of Whistler. This work is expected to begin in summer 2021 and complete in 2022.

This online community open house is designed for communities, Indigenous groups, government staff, the geothermal exploration sector and others interested in geothermal potential in southwest BC.
